The Orange Hedgehog Printing Machine

Printing Process

Orange Hedgehog uses many state of the art technologies to produce the items we sell. We are continuing to come up with new technologies and processes to allow even more types of products to be customised. Please see below for more details on our printing processes…

Sublimation

All ceramics (mugs, tiles etc.)
All wood & glass objects (coasters, chopping boards, jigsaws etc.)
All plastic & metal products with direct printing (door hanger, bookmark etc.)
All 100% polyester finishes (sports tops, textile topped mousemats etc.)

Sublimation Explained…

Sublimation uses heat-activated inks that change into a gas when heated and have the ability to bond with polyester or acrylic surfaces. Once the process of sublimation takes place your image is permanently tattooed to your product. Sublimation will leave the surface of your product smooth to the touch, and can reproduce photo quality images. Orange Hedgehog uses a special coating for many of our mugs, making the dishwasher and microwave safe.

Digital Inkjet

All paper photographic prints (mounted prints)
All paper inserts (insert keyrings, insert rulers etc.)

Digital Inkjet Explained…

Our digital inkjet printers produce stunning prints with the capability of a full colour process output. Only photographic paper is used, allowing the pigment inks to produce crisp and vibrant results.

Heat Transfer

All cotton products (100% cotton t-shirts, tote bags etc.)
All t-shirts on soft toys

Heat Transfer Explained…

Orange Hedgehog uses the latest and finest in Heat Transfer technology. Heat Transfer is as durable as screen-printing, but offers more detail. Heat Transfer uses heat to create a bond between the resin and the garment, locking the ink between the two layers. Heat Transfer has a slight plastic feel when first worn, however, this feel will diminish after washing.

The benefits of Heat Transfer

Vibrant colors - great for photos and detailed imagery.
Good washability, very slight fading happens over the first few washes.

Things to keep in mind with Heat Transfer

Print Area has a slightly stiff feel.
Transfer outline may be slightly visible with some designs.
May yellow slightly over time.
